In 2026, Aspire Autism Consultancy we will be launching a much-awaited CPD Forum for Couple Counsellors working with clients who are in Neurodiverse relationships. This will give our counsellors extra support and insight into certain topics that are common in neurodiverse relationships enabling them to provide the highest quality service and support that we are known for.
Support for Counsellors of Neurodiverse Couples
One of the services we provide at Aspire Autism Consultancy is the support for couples in neurodiverse relationships. We have built a team of counsellors who have the skills and knowledge to successfully coach and counsel our clients within their relationships. Working in this sector, we have seen a requirement for counsellors like ours to receive more support.
Many of the common themes which bring neurodiverse couples to counselling are covered within our 3-modular course ‘Working with Neurodiverse Couples and Relationships – A Neuro-Affirming Approach’. We would strongly recommend you attend this course, as it will provide you with a sound knowledge base prior to attending the CPD Forum.
Within the bi-monthly CPD Forum, we intend to build on the themes introduced within our course and provide scope to explore additional topics which come up within neurodiverse relationships.
These include:
- Intimacy – emotional and physical
- Masking within the relationship
- Coping with Shame
- Alternative living arrangements
- Non-monogamy
- Polyamory
- LGBTQIA+ Relationships
- Difficulty with domestic tasks
- Problems with consistency
- Differing Parenting styles
- Codependency
- Anger & sensitivity to rejection
- Difficulty recognising what constitutes abuse
These are just a variety of the topics which we will be covering, and we welcome suggestions from yourselves as practitioners regarding topics of interest. Please email us at aspiretraining2015@gmail.com if you have any topics which you would like us to consider for the CPD Forum.
If you would like to attend the Forum, please follow us on social media to receive notification of exactly when the CPD Group will go live on Eventbrite.

About Aspire Autism Consultancy
Deborah Wortman and Ruth Williams are psychotherapists with extensive experience gained over many years navigating their own neurodiverse relationships, alongside their therapeutic work to support client couples with some of the unique challenges they encounter. Deborah and Ruth provide specialist supervision to couple counsellors and have now decided to set up an online forum to deliver this much needed guidance to a wider audience. This is where the idea for our CPD Forum for Counsellors of Neurodiverse couples was born.
The relationships our counsellors support appear in a variety of forms as they may incorporate one or more neurodivergent partners presenting with ADHD, Autism or AuDHD (diagnosed, undiagnosed or self-identifying), and can include a non-neurodivergent partner. Whichever the combination, we are passionate about ensuring that all voices are heard and their individual needs fully explored and communicated in a way that can be clarified and mutually understood. Communication differences can easily lead to misunderstandings, particularly if non-verbal cues are missed or if a person struggles to express their emotions or pick up how their partner may be feeling. Sometimes clients are not aware that they could potentially be neurodivergent, and it is important that their therapist is able to recognise what could be influencing some of the distinguishing challenges within their relationships.
