About me
I’m Karen, a neurodivergent Therapist specialising in working with adults, using Transactional Analysis, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), and aspects of Imago Therapy. People who choose to work with me, are often struggling with the effects of past experiences, trying to understand themselves, and why things feel harder for them than they seem to be for others.
Whilst personal experiences have given me a sense of what it can be like to be misunderstood, I will always be curious about your experiences, and how you have come to understand them.
I have worked with people at all stages of life, from students to those who have retired. You may know exactly what you want to work on, or simply know that something isn’t working, and you want to understand why. You don’t need to have everything worked out before contacting me.
My practice is solely online, as this gives my clients the freedom to create an environment in which they feel safe, and comfortable enough to engage. Many of my clients identify as neurodivergent, specifically: Autistic, ADHDers, and AuDHDers. Most have official diagnoses, some are self-identified, whilst others are curious about their identity. To me, each position is valid, and my aim is to meet you where you are.
Ways of Working
My approach is neuro-affirming, calm and collaborative, with core training in Transactional Analysis, or TA. Using TA, we can explore how earlier experiences may have influenced how you see yourself, relate to others, and respond to situations in the present.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) has become an important part of my work with individuals, and I am currently working towards my accreditation. EMDR, is a structured approach, designed to help when we have been unable to fully process disturbing or traumatic experiences from the past, so that they are easily triggered and feel current. We will first establish whether EMDR is appropriate for you, if it is, we will ensure that you feel stable, and that you have strategies for managing difficult emotions before moving into the processing phase.
The pace, structure, and language of therapy can be adjusted so that you are not having to work harder than necessary to benefit from your sessions.
