How Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Can Support Neurodivergent Clients
Workshop details:
This webinar will explore, through an experiential recorded demonstration, how Equine Assisted Therapy can be an effective way to support neurodivergent people, both adults and younger individuals. We will explore the parallels between the ethical approach of equine assisted therapy, and the neurodivergent way of being and experiencing the world.
Who is this workshop for?:
This workshop is suitable for any professionals working with neurodivergent clients, and for neurodivergent individuals and their families. You do not need to have any equine experience to benefit from this webinar, or equine assisted therapy.
About Michaela:
Michaela has been a psychotherapeutic counsellor since 2010. In 2014 Michaela became aware of equine assisted therapy and decided to follow this path of learning and professional development as it combined two of her greatest passions, horses and counselling. Michaela hadn’t been around horses in her childhood, though had loved them passionately. This never waned, (much to the dismay of her parents!) so Michaela undertook the LEAP Equine Assisted Therapy training in 2015. At this time, Michaela had access to just one horse, on a part loan basis. Michaela now manages and cares for a herd of 5 equines in Somerset and a wonderful team of volunteers, as part of the community that is The Heard therapy CIC. The Heard offers Equine and Nature Assisted Therapy to individual clients, both young people and adults, and runs therapy groups and workshops. The passion and ethos of the organisation is inclusion, which has led to Michaela training in and working extensively with neurodivergent clients and trauma. Michaela is interested in the intersection between neurodivergence, trauma and attachment. She is also currently completing her training with EQUUSOMA and has started Somatic Experiencing training.
