Working with Neurodivergent Couples in Therapy – “How to Tango to Two Different Beats”
Our training is run online and offers a total of 7 CPD hours, and a CPD certificate is provided on completion of the course. We do not record our training as we prefer to create an environment in which delegates can feel at ease to ask questions and freely interact with colleagues and trainers.
Who is this Course for?
This course is ideal for counsellors, psychotherapists, and healthcare workers, who offer support to people who may be struggling to manage relationships impacted by neurodiversity.
The course provides additional CPD for practitioners who are already working with couples, as well as providing valuable information and practical tools for therapists working with individual clients who require guidance within their neurodivergent relationships.
Course Objectives
This course will enable practitioners to consider the additional challenges faced by couples, when one, or perhaps both partners are neurodivergent. Working with this client group requires an alternative approach. Therapists will learn how to help partners to develop a deeper understanding of one another, by improving their communication and emotional connection. Practitioners will acquire new skills and gain an appreciation of relationships which acknowledge and respect differing individual needs.
Deborah and Ruth have many years of experience working with neurodivergent couples, as well as their own ‘lived’ experience. They will provide practical tools for therapists, to help their clients enhance key aspects of their relationships and facilitate relational growth.
Live Question Time Panel
The course is written and presented with the help of our neurodivergent colleagues and includes a 'live' discussion panel, made up of individuals who will offer insights into how they manage their own neurodivergent relationships, and the role therapy has played. For those who have previously attended our training, you will know how beneficial it is to hear the ‘lived’ experiences shared by our panel members. This is a unique aspect of our course and our delegates will have the opportunity to ask panellists their own questions.
Benefits of Online Training
This course enables participants to interact and ask questions either discreetly in the ‘chat room’ facility, or online directly with trainers and panel members. We launched this new training as a 'pilot' in November 2022, and received such a positive response from delegates, that are now including this much awaited course within our regular ongoing training schedule.
Feedback from Previous Delegates
This course was so useful, not only professionally but also personally. The structure was just right, with time for discussion and having the panel is always a great way to help the information land. It is so comforting and empowering to know you are sharing this knowledge about how ND couples can find a deeper understanding and love for each other.
Thank you for all that you do as facilitators and trainers; spot on as always!
Jane McPhillips, Solution Focused Hypnotherapist
As a neurodivergent counsellor with a neurodivergent partner, I found the course incredibly informative, both personally and professionally.
I felt the course was highly accessible. The content, the pace of the course, and the way Ruth and Deborah collaborated to share their extensive knowledge of neurodivergent relationships was perfect for professionals and those looking for ways to understand their relationships better. I was particularly impressed with the gentle way that Ruth and Deborah delivered and emphasised the content around not 'othering' either partner, the importance of which was validated by both couples who made up the Q&A panel.
I also enjoyed the experiential part of the course; both the break-out rooms for discussions in smaller groups and being able to ask questions and share experiences within the wider group.
I finished the course feeling excited to continue my journey towards working with couples as a counsellor, and I highly recommend this course to others.
Thanks once again for this excellent training.
Debbie Challinor, Counsellor & Psychotherapist
I so appreciated the two couples who shared their experiences with us and felt moved by their generosity. I've taken away practical tools, more confidence in providing psycho-education where needed, and have clarity about timing and direction of support. The two days were thought provoking and coherent; deepening awareness and acceptance of how struggles arise.
I enjoyed learning from the varied experience of fellow group members in the breakout rooms and within the bigger group. It was an enriching learning experience for me, thank you.
